What is Career Counseling?

Career counseling is not just for new graduates braving the real world for the first time- although that is definitely a great reason to see a career counselor. Very few people stay with one career for their entire lives. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the average person will change their job 12 times! While some people are ready to jump into the next career, for others it is a decision plagued with questions and uncertainty. That’s where a Newark Behavioral Health Career Counselor can come in handy. We are a supportive, empathetic, outside third party that can help sort through all the racing thoughts and questions. Having an outside perspective and talking about your decision out loud is very helpful for making decisions.

  • In more specificity, Newark Behavioral Health commonly sees people for career counseling when they are wrestling with:

Leaving a job you’ve been at for years

    Changing companies

    Starting your own business

    Changing fields

New out of college and not sure what to do with your degree

Having so many passions, you can’t choose which one to focus on

General dissatisfaction about your career but not sure what to do with it

Questions about where your strengths lay and how that can be translated to a job

Re-entering the career field and unsure how it or you have changed

Wanting to get ahead in your career

You’re probably going to spend over 92,000 hours working, or an estimated quarter of your life! You don’t want to be miserable for a quarter of your life, and Newark Behavioral Health doesn’t want that either!
